This Woman’s Work is dedicated to inspiring, empowering and advancing single mothers in work and life. Our mission is to enhance female representation in leadership roles in corporate Canada. TWW focuses on supporting high-performing single mothers by removing traditional barriers to professional advancement such as childcare expenses, allowing them to pursue professional designations or graduate degrees that unlock their full career potential. Doing so contributes to a more diverse and powerful leadership landscape.

Founder Story
Caryn Maxwell-Smith is a seasoned professional in the financial sector with over 25 years of experience and currently sits on the management team at Dynamic Funds, National Accounts. She has held several business development and investor relations positions for traditional and alternative asset managers. An alumni from the University of Western Ontario, Caryn earned a B.A. in Economics in 2000 and returned in 2015 to the executive program, demonstrating her commitment to ongoing learning and professional improvement, all while working full-time and raising her young daughter. Caryn earned her MBA from the Ivey School of Business in 2017. In addition to her accomplishments at work, Caryn is an enthusiastic mentor to young professionals, serving as a dedicated member of several industry groups and contributing to the development of the next generation of leaders.

My Story. Her potential. Our future
As a single mother, I know firsthand how hard it is to juggle work, life, and the dream of something more. Earning a graduate degree once felt completely out of reach. But with a mix of determination, grit and creative problem-solving,
I completed my MBA, all while working full-time and raising my six-year-old daughter, Leilani.

The journey wasn’t easy. There were setbacks, surprise complications, and moments of doubt. But the investment of
time, energy, and money paid off in ways I never imagined.

And I believe it can for so many other mothers, too.

That’s why I’m passionate about helping women reach their professional goals without sacrificing the joy and presence
that motherhood deserves.
